Wood Roots Construction is a boutique custom home builder serving Whitefish, Kalispell, Columbia Falls, Lakeside, and the greater Flathead Valley of Northwest Montana. As a small company with just two employees, we intentionally take on only a select number of projects at a time, allowing us to provide every client with personalized attention, open communication, and a hands-on building experience from planning through the final walkthrough.

Meet Our Team
Boon Schmieder
Boon brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Woods Roots Construction. A graduate of Ferris State University with a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Boon has been a LEED Accredited Professional since 2009, showcasing his commitment to sustainable building practices.
Boon's construction career began in 2006 with high-rise residential projects in Chicago. In 2009, he relocated to Washington state, where he managed a range of military building projects, including high-security office buildings, army barracks, and military maintenance facilities.
In 2014, Boon moved to Whitefish, drawn by his love for snow and outdoor adventures. He quickly transitioned to building custom homes, which led to his partnership with Wilson and the founding of Woods Roots Construction in 2018.
When he's not immersed in construction projects, you can find Boon exploring the breathtaking mountains of the Flathead Valley with his loyal pup by his side. He believes in the importance of community and often seeks opportunities to give back through local initiatives.
WILSON MATTINGLY
A true Montana native, Wilson was born and raised in Choteau and has been immersed in the art of building since childhood. His journey began at the age of 7, crafting wooden swords in his father’s workshop, and evolved into summers spent working across nearly every trade in custom home construction. By 2002, Wilson had fully dedicated himself to the craft, gaining experience in multiple countries and contributing to some of the finest homes in the Flathead Valley.
With a lifetime of hands-on experience, Wilson’s expertise is as vast as Montana’s landscape. His commitment to excellence and craftsmanship is a cornerstone of Woods Roots Construction, which he co-founded with Boon in 2018.
Outside of work, Wilson is an avid outdoorsman. Whether he’s hunting, fishing, rafting, or skiing, Wilson takes full advantage of everything Montana has to offer. He cherishes time spent adventuring with his wife and three children, continuing the traditions and values of Montana living.
